Jason's Story
Hello. I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease, also known as IBD, and this is my story.
Navigating IBD is difficult initially, but becomes easier as you practice and develop techniques to keep yourself healthy. Here’s some advice: I have a little acronym I use to keep track of the IBD parts of my life: MEDS. The M is for “medicine,” because a crucial part of managing IBD is taking prescribed drugs appropriately. The E is for “energy,” because IBD really depletes your body and its nutrients. The D is for “diet,” because the best way to prevent chronic inflammation is to avoid certain irritant foods & consume additional servings of others.
Or what another doctor told me, which is that IBD patients should drink 8+ oz of water/day to stay hydrated, more than the average person. I guess what I’m trying to say is that, although difficult, living a regular life with IBD is definitely possible if you stick to the advice of professionals and trust your own intuition.
Another thing I am a big fan of – support! Having a support network is priceless. Whether it’s friends, family, or online support groups, having someone to vent to or share wins with can be a game-changer. Lastly, don’t let IBD be the director of your life’s movie. Yes, it’s a co-star, but you’re the lead! Embrace the plot twists, and remember, it’s okay not to have it all figured out. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Good luck!
